After all these months, I'm happy to say that finally SOMETHING has happened within my life. Multiple things actually, if you can believe it.
At the start of the month, I was able to attend the first meeting of my local city's pride group. I wasn't able to talk very much and they didn't really get to know me, but I was still happy to be there and I really liked the people that were attending. They were all really nice, kind and fun, and I can't wait to see them again. The only problem was that they got to see how damn messy my artistic process this. The goal there was for everyone to paint and just within one hour, they all had these perfect, clean looking paintings that were neat and professional.
Mine was.....definitely not.
Regardless, I still had a good time. I just hope they weren't secretly judging my sloppiness the whole time.
Later on in October, my local theater did something really, really cool for Halloween; a showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show with, of course, audience participation.
This was so exciting for me and my younger sister. Not just because we'd have something interesting to do on devil's night, but because getting to see a Rocky Horror has been on her bucket list for years, considering it's one of her favorite movies ever.
I honestly think it was the most fun both of us have had in years. There was something so lovely about seeing everyone come together for this weird, risque little movie that has become a countercultural icon and love it unabashedly. There were even two people who came cosplaying as Frankenfurter and Magenta! And they gave us a prop bag (for throwing stuff at the screen) that we were able to tak home as souvenirs. My sister in particular enjoyed it so much that she lost her voice afterwards from all the damn shouting we were doing. She's still resting her throat and trying really hard not to talk as I write this (.....which is really hard for her to do).
Afterwards, we stayed at our older sister's apartment and celebrated Halloween there. Once again, I got to hang out with a few of her friends. There were a bit more of them this time, but I think I was still sociable enough. I even made them laugh on a few occasions. Again, all I can really hope for is that I made a good impression.
Overall, I'd say I had a wonderful Halloween. The best one I've had in years, probably. All the ones I've had since moving here have been pretty disasterous in some way, so I'm really glad that this one was actually fun for me.
But the worst part about it being over is now it's November.
I wish it wasn't. I really, really wish it wasn't.
You know why.
